Discovering a Path to the Ground of Being
Saturday, April 20, 2024

In-Person ~ Private Studio, Greenbank, Whidbey Island
“Many people think that it is the function of a spiritual teaching to provide answers to life’s biggest questions, but actually the opposite is true. The primary task of any good spiritual teaching is not to answer your questions, but to question your answers. For it is your conscious and unconscious assumptions and beliefs that distort your perception and cause you to see separation and division where there is actually only unity and completeness.” ~ Adyashanti
This student-inspired gathering will offer an opportunity to explore meditation in more depth and discover what resonates for you. We’ll interweave gentle asana and breathing techniques to support the body. And we’ll take a playful approach with guided meditations to prepare for sitting in silence together, simply opening to a spacious ground within.
Yoga asana led me to meditation, which has been my central practice for over 40 years. Meditation is a reliable companion that helps me integrate discomfort and feeling overwhelmed, has taught me to be still and present to reconnect with what is essential, softens and deepens relationships, and affirms the natural impulse of life to create and renew itself continuously.
My generous teachers and the teachings point the way and provide the map. But the journey is a personal one and can only be understood through experiencing the terrain and walking the path over and over . . . Counter to what I thought about meditation, there is nothing to stop, nothing to manipulate, or contrive nothing to add or subtract to become better, complete, and whole.
Instead I have found that meditation is the discovery of the dimension of consciousness that isn’t a mental representation of anything. It is a direct experience of the vast context or screen behind thoughts, feelings, and sensations. And the fascinating paradox is that attending to the arising and subsiding of thoughts, feelings, and sensations leads to experiencing this complete and interconnected essence of the fabric of life. It’s a precious gift. We simply open to it.
About Me:
I teach yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda as awareness practices, paths of inquiry that lead to greater sensitivity, tolerance, understanding, and transformation. This approach is informed by forty years’ of practice and study, synthesizing my professional training in psychology, movement, and health science with these wisdom practices.
I currently live in Seattle, where I teach online classes, intensives, and regularly see clients for one-on-one consultations, online and in-person. For seventeen years, I was the steward of The Yoga Lodge, a teaching and retreat destination on Whidbey Island.
